In October 2011, I performed with my band, AllofaSudden, at San Francisco’s legendary Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival. That performance was the culmination of 22 years of writing music, performing, and studying the guitar, dating back to my 9th birthday.
Soon after picking up the guitar, I began to write songs. By age 13, I was performing with a band of highschool students and taking lessons with Baltimore Jazz Legend Carl Filipiak.
From 1998-2002, I studied everything from bebop and Medieval Madrigals to Javanese Gamelan and experimental music at Wesleyan University. I also joined a reggae band and played solo acoustic shows of my original music. For my senior project, I composed, performed, and mixed the music for two student films, one of which received honors from the school.
After graduating Wesleyan, I ran a rock music program at Independent Lake Camp in Pennsylvania, creating a curriculum that included guitar, bass, drum, and songwriting, as well as biweekly camper concerts.
In 2004, I began attending Ex’pression College. At Ex’pression, I learned sound engineering and production, engineering sessions in a variety of studios, from small digital setups to large analog consoles. I grew well-versed in many areas of audio production, including recording, mixing, mastering, post-production, and game audio.
After graduating Ex’pression, I completed an internship with the audio team at Sony PlayStation (SCEA). At SCEA, I designed original sounds, recorded dialogue and sound effects, and edited hours of raw audio for use in the massively successful title “Infamous” (Sucker Punch 2009). I received a sound design credit for my work on the game.
Since 2008, I have been hired by many Bay Area artists including Dogman Joe (pop/reggae/rock), Deborah Crooks (singer/songwriter), and Elliot Racine (eperimental jazz/rock). Past gigs have included shows at the Great American Music Hall, the Independent and the Red Devil Lounge, as well as bars like the Hotel Utah, and Grant and Green.
In 2009, I founded Sunset Guitar Lessons. It is incredibly rewarding to guide my students to their unique guitar goals. In the process, I have amassed a stock of exclusive guitar materials, including scales, exercises, and songs. I continue to write music, study the guitar, and create the best possible personalized lessons for each of my students.
